MIKE GOODRICH                                                    Role: Chairman & Publicity Secretary

I first started walking as a child when we moved to the lake district. 

I then became keen on hill walking, climbing Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in my teens.  After joining the Ramblers in 2009 I led walking parties to Spain, Corsica, Italy, and Crete.  These holidays enabled me to enjoy the outdoor life, with mountain scenery, flora and fauna, and of course partaking of the local delicacies; all with a group of like-minded folk.

I am a retired Company Director & Management Consultant.  I was brought up in a practical family, and was always making things and tweaking them to improve performance.  It started with a model railway engine where I used molten lead into to improve traction, then tuning my motorbike to go faster, and eventually modifying my car for high speed too, until it crashed…  Similarly, in business I aimed for higher productivity and improved profitability.

Hobbies include DIY, photography, wildlife, classical music, whisky, grandchildren, and football (I have been a keen supporter of Sunderland since the early fifties).

I walk every day, and in 2023 completed 3009 miles.  I’m slowing down, as I only managed 2583 in 2024!

I served as Records Officer in 2020, and Chairman in 2022, and recently took on Publicity.
